Autobiography

You never know what your kid will write about you for school assignments. This is part of the "family" chapter of Willa's autobiography:

My family is like a pod of dolphins because we always travel together, and we are always looking out for each other. There are only four of us but if we combine all of our love it takes up the whole house.

My dad loves birds more than anything in the world. His favorite time was when we had a woodpecker in our yard. He watches them like our tortoise-shell Fuzzy watches birds on her perch. He enjoys fishing and gets so excited when we catch big fish. It is so fun when we get to spend time together at a ball game sometimes he gets so excited that he yells like a elephant at a parade.

My mom is like an Australian kangaroo, always taking care of her young and jumping around from place to place. She plans exciting activities and loves going on long hikes, walking around and enjoying nature. She loves to make fun dinners and sometimes we play games while we are eating. Her favorite games to play are chickenfoot dominoes, Apples to Apples and Clue.

My sister Jia is like the fashion police, always strutting around with her black wide-frame glasses and a very stylish outfit. She hates going on long hikes (unlike my mom) and she loves hanging out in her hammock outside. She’s very considerate and always helps me with my homework when I need help.

Wanga Gag + Candy

Jia and I planned a mystery road trip today with two stops: one for Joe and one for Willa. For Joe, we visited the unique house where Wanda Gag, amazing author/illustrator (who wrote Millions of Cats - the oldest American picture book still in print), grew up with her artsy Bohemian family. For Willa, it was Minnesota's Largest Candy Store, which pretty much says it all.

Someone has something new she'd like to show you. (It's not her drink.)

Veg Fest

Twin Cities Veg Fest: Tasty vegan "meat," lots of literature, virtual reality of factory farms, henna, and Jia's first soapbox preacher. (Apparently vegans have an immoral lifestyle?)

In the Treetops

Thumbs up to our huge theater scene. We saw a show tonight about the life of children's book author and illustrator Wanda Gag. We'd never heard of the theater - an intimate 70 seater. We were blown away by the acting and singing.
