Cedar Point 7: Games

Games, sparklers, fort-making, fire-roasted donuts, forest fairies, and a play-doh replica of the near-capsizing of our pontoon. Oh, and while I was sitting outside reading, a chipmunk ran up and bit my toe!

Cedar Point 6: The Titanic

We joke that we are the vacation "crisis" family. Willa floated away and Jia nearly biked at full speed into a deer, but today topped everything when we almost capsized the pontoon. Almost all of the adults and all the kids happened to be in the front of the boat at the same moment the boat slowed down, and the front half rapidly submerged at a sharp angle. Pat the driver saved the day with his quick maneuvering. Other than getting really wet and some bait floating away, we emerged unscathed and a lot smarter! Then we took some deep breaths, went swimming and had a good time.

Cedar Point 5: Scenic State Park

We hiked a two-mile esker trail between two beautiful lakes. Jia, the anti-hiker, led the way and later admitted to having a great time!

Cedar Point 4: Mesabi Trail

We biked the Mesabi Trail (where Jia almost collided with three deer); we visited the Forest History Center (where we climbed a fire tower, held a snake and checked out a logging camp); and Willa caught three fish (which made her so happy). Up next: ice cream social!

Cedar Point 2: Hydrobike drama

We had an exciting water rescue on this windy day! Willa took out the hydrobike - the one with no steering and a chain that keeps falling off. She was instantly taken by the current. Joe hopped onto another hydrobike to save her, but it was clear that he couldn't do much to guide her and then his chain fell off. Pat and I then jumped into the canoe, caught up with Willa, and Willa and I made a dramatic canoe/hydrobike transfer where the canoe took on a lot of water. I pedaled the bike backward back to the resort (the only way that allows for steering). Then Pat struggled to get the canoe back with two kids in it, so Joe and a neighbor kid went out to help him in kayaks. He eventually made it back paddling backwards and very wet! After Willa thanked everyone, she said, "Now I want to go kayaking!" (Lesson not learned.)

We did manage to have some fun on the pontoon though!

Cabin time with family...let the adventures begin!
