Our trip to the cabin! (Part I: Scenery, Flora and Fauna) UPDATED

We just returned from a week with family in northwoods Wisconsin. What a week! It was filled with playing at the beach, fishing, nature crafts, giggles and goofing off. The girls had a blast hanging out with cousin Han, Aunt Susie and Uncle Pat, and Grandpa and Grandma. We stayed in a cabin at Garmisch resort. It's on Lake Namekagon, a huge lake that is great for swimming and fishing.

We saw a spectacular display of two bald eagles fighting for a fish. Deer were regular cabin visitors, and Willa and I saw a ruffed grouse on an outing. The girls learned what a loon sounds like, and Jia loved holding the minnows and night crawlers when fishing (and was somewhat distraught about their purpose).

We picked wild raspberries and wildflowers every day. We made a lot of nature crafts and we all visited a local nature center. It was brand new and so well done! (Willa and I also made an additional trip there for an afternoon because she was too rambunctious on the boat.)

I have a lot of pictures to post, so I'll do it in parts. First off, scenery, flora and fauna:

Scenery:

Flora:

Fauna:

(Anyone know what type of caterpillar this is? I'd love to know.)

Does Jia at the nature center count as fauna?

UPDATE: Thanks to Stacey, I found out the caterpillar is the White Marked Tussock Moth. Fun!

What a fun vacation! I remember 3 or 4 summer vacations at Garmisch. It was so magical, and there was a castle!

The photos are beautiful. You might be able to find out what your caterpillar is at this site.

It's a fascinating site, and I have been known to spend an evening just learning about bugs.

Best to you, Joe and the girls!

Looks beautiful! I have to ask, what is a grouse (sp?)? I love the wildflower headbands too, so cute! Again, I would never to think to do that, lol!
