A fun night at the deli

Joe and I had grand plans for the evening. We had eaten some yummy banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) the other day, and wanted to take the girls to the deli itself to eat some more for dinner before shopping nearby. It was a tiny Vietnamese deli on Eat Street. The evening started out swimmingly as Willa fell asleep in the car and had to be roused when we arrived.

We entered and ordered. We sat next to a table of three guys in their 20's. There are only two tables in the place, and all of us were squished together. Willa's post-nap whining and crabbiness began. Willa fussed about where she sat, about wanting to hold Jia's hand (which Jia did not want) and about her drink.

Willa: I want this drink!
Us: I really think you would like this one better.
Willa: No! I want this one.
Us: Well, all right then.
Willa: (Sips drink.) Yuck! I don't like it! I'm not drinking it!

Jia: (Starts to eat her sandwich. Begins to gag.) Gaa! Gaa! I'm going to throw up! Gaa! I can't eat this. I'M GOING TO THROW UP!
Us: But you liked this sandwich the other day. What's wrong?
Jia: I'M ALLERGIC TO IT! I'M GOING TO THROW UP! (Proceeds to dramatically spit it out.)
Jia: (Points to what she spit out.) THAT! That is what I'm not eating!
Us: That's a carrot. You eat carrots!
Jia: Not that carrot.
Jia: I'm only eating bread from now on.
Willa: Me too!

At the next table:
Guy #1: I don't know if I want to have children.
Guy #2: Me neither.
Guy #3: Yeah.

Just doing our part for population control!

I love it! If one dinner was enough to talk them out of kids, you certainly did them a favor!
