I accepted a new job with some lengthy domestic and international travel. I've made a strong effort to maintain a flexible work schedule these past few years, and
have been so happy that I was able to be around for the girls. Recently, an opportunity came my way that was too good to
pass up.
I'll be helping a lot of people and the girls recognize that. I think this change will be an exciting one
for all of us!
One of the perks of the job is that I get to stay at places like the Four Seasons in Santa Barbara. Granted I'll be working, but it's a nice place to do it!
I had a funny t
elephone conversation with the girls while I was away...
Me: Hi girls! I love you!
Jia: Hi Mama! Where are you?
Me: California.
Jia: Oh! Are you in Sacramento, the capital? (She had to memorize them this year.)
Me: No. I'm in Santa Barbara.
Willa: Did you see Santa?
Me: No, I'm in Santa Barbara. I was in meetings all day.
Willa: You were eating all day? Where was Santa?
And then the conversation deteriorated even further after that.
Although I was in meetings all day, I did get to walk on the beach that night.

While on the trip, we went to the gorgeous ranch of Monty Roberts and saw him take an
abused rescue horse that had never been ridden and get it to calm down
and accept a saddle and rider in less than 30 minutes - just by using
body language. His father broke horses the traditional way. It took
weeks and he abused them in the process (and abused Monty too), and
Monty felt there had to be a better way. It was fascinating how he could
predict exactly what the horse would do (now it will drop its head, now
it will chew on its tongue...). He was knighted by the Queen for his
work with her horses and has fostered 47 kids. An amazing guy.

Congratulations! And kudos to the girls and Dad. Hard to be without a parent, even parttime!
