At the end of dinner the other night, Willa choked on some food. Really choked, as in no gasps or choking noise at all. She turned beet red. I yanked her out of her high chair and started various maneuvers. She dislodged it and then projectile vomited her entire dinner all over Joe. But we were relieved.
I went to pick up Jia at preschool last week. I arrived a little early. Her teachers couldn't find her. The entire school had finished an assembly and everyone was heading back to their classes. One of Jia's teachers was at the head of the big group. She said Jia was with the other teacher. I waited until all the kids progressed past. The other teacher happened to be at the end. She said Jia was with the first teacher. When I told her she wasn't, she started to panic too. Jia's school is in a church. Totally open to the public. The assembly doors are right by the main doors (which Jia can open). The church is located on a busy street and freeway entrance. We made our way back to Jia's class. She was there. Apparently she and a little boy decided to leave the assembly early and sneak back to class together!
And then there's Jia's school photo. I had a moment of sheer panic when I saw it. On first glance, it appears that she is posed with her arm tucked behind her head like some creepy child beauty pageant contestant who is made to look sexy beyond her years. See it for yourself. (Back away and squint at it so you can acquire my blurry vision for yourself.)

Upon inspection, apparently the background matches her dress perfectly creating said horrid optical illusion. (I wasn't the only one who saw it. In fact, a group of other moms gathered around and looked at her photo in shock. It didn't help that we couldn't see the design on her dress so it all looked the same.) Poor kid couldn't look more serious. But beautiful. The best part is that after she returned from the photo shoot she said, "Mama! We had pictures today and I smiled!"

She is beautiful, sexy or not : )
Sooo scary about the choking episode. I have had to do the Heimlich (sp?) on a student before and it scared me to death.
As for the teachers not knowing where Jia was, did they appear frightened? I am a constant head counting teacher. All my friends laugh at me, but that is my greates fear, to lose a child.
Glad everyone is safe : ) Whew!
It does kind of look like that. That's what I originally saw. But she looks so cute in this picture. :)
Wow...that is scary about her school! Thank goodness they were in class! I bet they will definitely be more careful in paying attention now!
I about passed out reading about your "moments." Glad it worked out.
I think I need a glass of wine.

yikes...I am glad it is nearly the weekend for you! You need some RandR this weekend.
You've had some scary things going on!! I'm so glad that you were able to dislodge Willa's food!!!
I have to agree with Missy about the counting... when I worked with k-6 graders we were constantly counting the kids. Did you talk to the director??
I say your post about Brady's bear feet...just thought I'd let you know that they are from LL Bean, but I'm not sure how old they are as they were a hand me down. Good luck finding something.
Glad all is well and how scary both events were..so happy you handled them so well.
the pic is gorgeous!!!
Love the school pic! I can see how you saw the beauty pageant thing, ugh!! Can you say, Little Miss Sunshine? LOL!
I am so terrified that Kyan will choke. Poor Willa, I bet she was scared. Sorry to hear about the puke on Daddy:)
You must have freaked when you thought Jia was lost! The things that must go through your mind. Ugh! Glad she was safe and sound.
Oh my gosh Jane. I just laughed so hard (out loud). Jia is precious and so beautiful in her photo! I can see what you mean though - on first glance it does look like she has her hand behind her head!! That is funny!!!
